Advanced & Deep Tissue Massage

Advanced and deep tissue massage focuses on releasing the deeper myofascial restrictions of the deeper muscles, ligaments and tendons of the body. Specific manipulation of these tissues assists reduce muscle tension, increases flexibility and improves recovery. The techniques used within our advanced and deep tissue treatments are those which are also used by physical therapists and osteopaths and involve:

  • Palpation
  • Neuromuscular techniques (NMT)
  • Ischemic Compression
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Myofascial Release
  • Joint Mobilisation
  • Hands Free Techniques
  • Client Postural Analysis
  • Rehabilitative After Care Advice

As well as being increasingly requested by those who prefer a deeper form of massage, deep tissue and advanced massage techniques are used to treat a variety of complaints including:

Alongside its rehabilitative benefits, it is a treatment which is increasingly being requested by sports people and those involved in physical activity as a means of increasing exercise perfomance, improving range of motion, reducing risk of injury from over exertion and allowing the ability to train for longer periods / at higher levels. Recovery time from exercise is reduced and it is a form of treatment which can be used in a rehabilitative context to stretch and strengthen muscles and dispel the residual accumulation of lactic acid and other toxins build up in the muscles.

Despite it perhaps initially appearing that deep tissue massage or advanced techniques are mainly for sports people or those with health complaints, these are actually treatments that are suitable for anyone who prefers a deeper form of massage. Advanced and deep tissue massage has many of the same benefits as as swedish massage but is performed to work specifically on those deeper layers of the body's tissues rather than the superficial layers alone. Unlike many other forms of massage however, it is not a relaxing massage and if this is one of your main aims of treatment, you may find swedish massage / another form of massage, a preferable option.

We perfom advanced and deep tissue treatments on two basis - a full body routine(consisting of treatment to the upper legs, calves & feet, back & lumbar region, shoulders & neck, and arms) or more individually tailored appointments ranging from 1/2hr to 2 hrs, during which time we will work on those specific areas requiring attention. Where a full body routine is selected, this will take a minimum of 1 hr, to a maximum 2 hr duration.

Should you require any information on the time advised to work on a specific problem or area, please contact us for advice.
